The name is a little ambitious. We know.

When we started The Flooring Artists in Denver in 2013, we chose the name as something to live up to.

A good wood floor requires technical knowledge, but technical knowledge alone isn’t enough. The work also calls for judgment: knowing where to slow down, what can be repaired, how a color will behave on a particular species, and when the best choice is to leave something alone.

That combination of skill, patience and judgment is what the name means to us.

Built around the work

The company began with a fairly simple observation: homeowners often had to choose between a independent craftsman who did excellent work but was difficult to reach, and a larger company with organized service but less attention paid to the actual floor.

We thought those things should be able to exist together.

So we built The Flooring Artists around experienced people in the field, supported by better training, modern equipment and organized project systems. Technology handles scheduling, communication and the other repetitive parts of the business. The people doing the work still make the decisions that require experience.

It is not a revolutionary idea. It is not a revolutionary idea. It is simply the kind of flooring company we wanted to build.

What matters to us

Take the time the floor requires.
Efficiency matters, but rushing sanding, preparation or finish work usually costs more in the end.

Explain the choices.
There is rarely one universally “best” floor, stain or finish. We explain the tradeoffs so you can make a decision that fits your home and how you live in it.

Use proven methods, but keep learning.
The fundamentals of good flooring work haven’t changed much. The equipment, floor finishes and ways of controlling dust have. We respect both sides of that.

Stay responsible for the result.
Problems occasionally happen in construction. What matters is whether the company answers the phone, explains what happened and makes it right.

Floors are not factory products

Wood varies. Different types of hardwood flooring behave differently, and existing homes are rarely square, level or completely predictable. Two boards from the same tree can take stain differently.

We don’t think those realities should be hidden behind promises of perfection. Our job is to understand the material, prepare it properly and make thoughtful decisions as the work progresses.

Sometimes that means restoring the character already in a floor. Sometimes it means creating something entirely different. Either way, the goal is a floor that looks intentional, performs well and belongs in the home.

A little about the company

The Flooring Artists was founded by James Alexander in 2015.

Today, our team provides hardwood floor installation, refinishing and repair services throughout the Denver metro area. The company has grown, but the original standard remains the same: combine careful workmanship with a straightforward, well-run customer experience. You can see the results, and some of the decisions behind them, in our Denver hardwood flooring projects.

Our workmanship guarantee explains what customers can expect from us.

No grand story. Just work we are proud to put our name on.
